  • The Mount Pleasant Artist Guild donated funds to five local schools through its Art Gives Back program (Wando High, Lucy Beckham High, Moultrie Middle, Laing Middle, and Thomas Cario) to help art programs purchase supplies and spark creativity among students.  Moultrie News

  • On Monday, May 11, the Circle K (on Johnnie Dodd's Boulevard) charged over $4 a gallon, showing rising fuel costs that have pressed local mortgage rates, touring expenses for bands, and seafood prices. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Huguenot Society of South Carolina received a $5,359.37 grant from SC250 to support a free lecture on June 23 at the Charleston Museum titled Declaring Independence in Charleston: Text and Context; the event will explore how printer Peter Timothy spread the news of independence.  Moultrie News
  • Trident Technical College honored over 70 employees for service milestones from five to 35 years at its annual Service Awards program, where breakfast and tokens of appreciation were provided. The event recognized a combined 1,195 years of service, with DeVetta Hughes (associate vice president for Human Resources) noted for her 35 years of dedication.  Moultrie News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina leaders and tribal representatives met in Charleston at the Lowcountry Land Conservation Symposium where Governor Henry McMaster unveiled a plan to conserve an extra seven million acres over the next 25 years (boosting conservation to nearly 10 million acres).  WCIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Anglers will have 61 to 62 days to catch red snapper as NOAA approved state permits that extend the season from July 1 to Aug. 31. The SCDNR pilot program will use a smartphone tool (from Bluefin Data) to track fishing trips along coastal and federal waters.  WCIV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Tampa Bay Rays sent catcher Logan Driscoll and outfielder Victor Mesa Jr. to the Charleston RiverDogs for rehab assignments starting Tuesday night and they aim to add experience to the team ahead of a six-game homestand at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.  WCIV
  • College of Charleston softball, led by 25-year-old head coach Maggie Mrowka, clinched an NCAA Tournament berth after sweeping the CAA Tournament bracket — a breakthrough run that has emphasized her team’s strong season; her father has remained a trusted advisor since her early days at the field.  WCIV
