CRIME NEWS

  • On May 3 at about 1 a.m., Mount Pleasant police arrested 28-year-old Chandler Cone near Coleman Boulevard and Simmons Street for a 3rd DUI charge after he failed to turn on his headlights and did not pass field sobriety tests—records show he had previous DUI convictions.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jakob Highducheck, a College of Charleston student from Inman, was selected as one of 20 Key into Public Service Scholars by Phi Beta Kappa — earning a $5,000 scholarship — and will attend an educational conference in Washington, D.C. to build his career in public service and environmental research.  Moultrie News

  • Officials say hurricane season is almost here and residents should prepare now by checking hazards, gathering supplies, and planning evacuation routes — seasonal forecasts give only overall storm counts and not who may be hit. Last year saw above-normal storm activity, and the official forecast for 2025 will be released later in May.  WCIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NIWC Atlantic completed a week of naval research on unmanned systems off Sullivan’s Island in partnership with NSWC Crane and U.S. Fleet Forces Command. The testing placed sensors + radios on air, surface, and underwater vehicles while a Navy warship and helicopters helped engineers test new communication technology.  Moultrie News
