CRIME NEWS

  • On April 28, a driver named Jalen Mauldin was arrested for DUI 2nd in Mount Pleasant after his white Ford pickup swerved between lanes near US Hwy 17 and Ira Road around 9:20 p.m. (He reportedly had three beers at a local chicken-wing spot) (and his record shows a prior DUI from March 5).  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thomas C. Cario Middle School earned the Palmetto’s Finest School award on April 30 — the first school in the district to receive the honor in over 20 years, as recognized by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.  Charleston County School District
  • The Charleston County School District Board of Trustees is asking for community representatives to serve on its Health Advisory Committee as current terms expire; openings are for 1 Clergy, 2 Medical, 2 Parents, and 2 Students (1 must be the Student Body President). Interested volunteers must submit a resume and letter by noon on June 6 and selection will occur at the Board meeting on August 26.  Charleston County School District

HEALTH NEWS

  • Inner Healing will open its doors in CHS this May to offer innovative outpatient care with treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation and Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. The clinic is led by Dr. Suzanne Kerns and psychiatric nurse Robin Secrist and will provide medication management, therapy, and holistic services for depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions.  Moultrie News
  • Local widow Caroline Brennick shared her husband's story on Good Morning Charleston to boost esophageal cancer awareness since a person dies every 36 minutes from the disease—she urged adults aged 50+ to talk with their doctors about regular endoscopies, and Dr. Craig Lockhart explained that factors like acid reflux, smoking, and alcohol play a role in the rising risk.  WCIV
