- ➤ Mount Pleasant's VFW Post 10624 honored local pool legend Charles Harris by holding a pool tournament on April 26 that raised $2,560 for Shriners (following last year's donation to St. Jude) at their Stuart Engals Boulevard headquarters. Moultrie News

- ➤ Longtime literacy advocate Fran Hawk has been named for the 2026 South Carolina Governor’s Volunteer Awards by the Lowcountry Literacy Project. The former school librarian and community leader has championed reading programs across Charleston — a legacy that benefits local schools and families. Moultrie News
- ➤ The State Board of Education suspended the teaching certificate of former Wando High School science teacher Nathan Foster Bantz—effective April 7—after an investigation found he falsified student grades, failed to secure a testing environment, and did not provide adequate instruction for a medically homebound student. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A bill that requires stores and restaurants to label shrimp as local + imported advanced in the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee on Tuesday and will soon go to the full Senate. Local shrimpers hope the rule will help them compete with lower-cost foreign imports. WCIV
- ➤ Fourteen candidates for US Rep. Nancy Mace’s 1st District seat will speak at 88 Club meetings on May 6 and May 20 at 7 a.m. at Sunrise Bistro in Anna Knapp Plaza on Anna Knapp Blvd & attendees must pay for their breakfast. Moultrie News
