BUSINESS NEWS

  • BloomTown Flower Market held a ribbon-cutting on April 22 at its new location on Houston Northcutt Boulevard after moving from its Coleman Boulevard site—attended by local Chamber of Commerce representatives and Town staff. Co-owners Christy CC Collins and Liz Ewald said the new space is brighter and offers customers the chance to design their own arrangements with easier access.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charleston County Public Library launched its reimagined Tech Team on April 21 at the Bees Ferry West Ashley Library to boost digital literacy. The team will offer expanded classes and one-on-one appointments — including a help lab at Mount Pleasant Library — and will host special programs through early May.  Moultrie News
  • The Southeastern Chapter of the National Safety Council has teamed with local law enforcement to warn high school students about the dangers of distracted driving. The program was held at Palmetto Christian Academy on April 22, is happening at Wando High School today, and will take place at Lucy Beckham High School on April 24 — it uses virtual reality, mock traffic stops, and a cone course to show the risks of distractions and impairment.  WCIV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • SeamonWhiteside has presented a sea level rise plan to the Isle of Palms City Council that calls for replacing septic systems with sewer lines and adding green and gray infrastructure—efforts aimed at slowing erosion and reducing flood risks. The plan, which was adopted in March, projects needed changes by 2040 and includes ongoing beach sand renourishment by the US Army Corps of Engineers.  Moultrie News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Town of Mount Pleasant said renovations at Alhambra Hall will finish this summer with new cedar siding, updated interiors, upgraded parking, and refreshed park amenities. The hall will reopen in September—restoring its classic gray color with white trim while offering improved public spaces.  Moultrie News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson Thomas received unexpected results from a genetic test at MUSC’s In Our DNA SC program after his wife was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2019 and a family history of cancer raised concerns. He now follows regular screenings and lifestyle changes while MUSC plans to enroll 100,000 people to help spot hereditary risks for cancer and heart disease.  WCIV

  • The South Carolina Stingrays dropped a 4-2 loss to the Orlando Solar Bears on April 21 in Game 3 of the Kelly Cup Playoffs and still lead the series 2-1. Game 4—set for tonight at the Kia Center—will be held in Orlando.  WCIV
