- ➤ Charleston was chosen as one of four semi-quincentennial markets for America’s 250th anniversary, and SC250 Charleston is set to host a series of events from June 20 to July 5, including a Colonial Fair at Wando Mount Pleasant Library, to boost local tourism through 2033. Moultrie News

- ➤ On April 16, two seniors — Michael Ballard from Lucy Beckham High School and Chloe Standford from Phillip Simmons High School — received $2,000 Joe Brinson Memorial Scholarships at the Chamber of Commerce Luncheon. Ballard will attend Furman College while Standford will study architecture at UNC Charlotte. Moultrie News
- ➤ Vanessa Brown was named Director of Postsecondary Pathways for Peninsula Programs at Burke High School on April 17; she will begin after retiring as principal from Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies (effective July 15) to expand dual enrollment and career-linked training. - ➤ Charleston County School District announced that Hannah Bodie will become the next principal of Whitesides Elementary on July 1. Bodie (with over 20 years of education experience) will succeed Michelle Conner as the school continues to grow. Charleston County School District
- ➤ Andrea Gadsden was named CCSD’s Director of Special Projects on Apr. 17 to lead districtwide planning for school improvements (she brings nearly 20 years of classroom and leadership experience) and her role aims to support safe, quality classrooms across the district. - ➤ Dr. Jacobo Mintzer will deliver a keynote at the MUSC Institute for Neuroscience Discovery Conference in Charleston from April 21-24 — explaining how familiar music activates key brain regions in Alzheimer’s patients. His research sets the stage for future studies using music to bolster brain health. The Post and Courier
