- ➤ Tamika Brown received the First Responder Award on April 16 after 25 years in law enforcement were celebrated at the Chamber of Commerce Luncheon. She has served as a school resource officer at Charles Pinckney and Belle Hall Elementary and led a reading program at Carolina Park. Moultrie News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ May brings family-friendly festivals to the area. In Mount Pleasant, the Cooper River Room at Memorial Waterfront Park will host an Inclusive Superhero Dance on May 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. for $4, and the Mount Pleasant Pier will feature live music on May 15 from 7 p.m. Moultrie News

- ➤ Wando High School adviser Molly Gordon was named a national finalist for the FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) Award on Apr. 16. She will join four finalists at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. this summer. Charleston County School District
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services will launch its Beach Monitoring Program from May to October, collecting water samples at coastal beaches to test for Enterococci bacteria + officials will post swim advisories online if levels become high. WCIV

- ➤ Stingrays forward Simon Pinard earned an All-ECHL First Team honor after scoring 28 goals and 41 assists this season. The team will play its final road game Friday at Enmarket Arena + game time is 7 p.m. WCIV
