  • Former deputy Emily Pelletier is scheduled to go to trial today for three counts of reckless homicide — the charges stem from a May 8 crash in which she allegedly ran a stop sign at 73 mph, killing a mother and her two daughters.  The Post and Courier
  • Moncks Corner police investigated a fatal hit and run on Highway 52 late Saturday when at 11:30 p.m. a black Mazda CX5 struck two pedestrians—one died while the other received non life-threatening injuries.  WCIV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local kids and adults showed off art at the second annual Arts Festival and Community Fun showcase hosted by the Old Village Community Association at the Miriam Brown Community Center in Mount Pleasant on April 12—children played basketball before contest winners were announced in an art contest themed People, Places and Things You Love for ages five to nine, ten to fourteen, fifteen to nineteen, twenty to fifty and fifty and older.  Moultrie News
  • Mount Pleasant's Wando Library now offers a series of on-location fiber arts classes covering sewing machine training, knitting, crochet, weaving, embroidery and beading at its Creative Studio—participants can join a twice monthly knitting club and sign up for one-on-one lessons.  Moultrie News

  • Local shrimpers see tariffs as a chance to regain fair market share after decades of tough competition from cheap imports — Bryan Jones, vice president of the South Carolina Shrimpers Association, said that a targeted approach using measures like anti-dumping orders may help keep domestic prices stable and support local earnings.  WCBD

  • Charleston Battery defeated Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-1 on April 12 at Patriots Point with goals from Aaron Molloy in the 67th minute and Cal Jennings in the 80th minute—marking his 70th USL Championship regular season goal.  WCIV
  • The South Carolina Stingrays came from behind to win 5-2 over the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday in their penultimate regular season game, notching their 17th straight win. Ryan Hofer, Tyler Weiss, Lynden Breen, Erik Middendorf and Charlie Combs scored while goaltender Seth Eisele made 17 saves, and their final regular season game will be on Sunday against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits.  WCIV
