  • A magnolia tree was planted outside Lucy Beckham High School on April 10th to honor Brady Lee, a 16-year-old student who died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning two years ago and whose organ donation saved lives—his family, friends, and school community gathered at the ceremony. The tree is expected to live for 120 years—standing as a lasting tribute to his selfless act.  WCBD

  • A new Lilly Pulitzer store opened at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre yesterday, bringing the brand’s iconic prints and vibrant colors to local shoppers. The 1,929-square-foot store offers women’s, men’s and children’s fashion and home items with hand-painted fitting rooms — its third location in the Charleston area.  WCIV
  • The Better Business Bureau Serving Central SC and Charleston warned that data breaches and scams are increasing in the Lowcountry and advised residents to protect their personal information. The agency urged people to check emails carefully+use strong passwords and verify website safety to avoid identity theft.  WCIV

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 7, Mount Pleasant police stopped a driver swerving on Coleman Boulevard and found that 55-year-old Kenneth Carson Jr. was heavily intoxicated—he jerked his wheel aggressively, refused to cooperate, and had alcohol and a marijuana container in his Ford F150, which led to his DUI 2nd Offense charge and transportation to Charleston County Detention Center.  Moultrie News
  • A Goose Creek man, Theron Zellars Reddy (28) was arrested on Isle of Palms after police responded to a report of an aggressive man in a parked car who assaulted a known victim and stole her cell phone, and he faces charges of strong-armed robbery, kidnapping, and domestic violence with a bond hearing scheduled for Friday.  WCIV
  • Donald Lee Robinson, 58, died after suffering a medical emergency at Al Cannon Detention Center and was taken to Trident—Centre Point Emergency Department at 9:33 p.m. where deputies, detention center medical staff, North Charleston Fire and Charleston County EMS tried life-saving measures, and his death is under investigation pending autopsy.  WCBD

  • At Buist Academy, fourth grader Ansley Gratzmiller won Enlighten SC’s Children’s Book Challenge with her book on staying safe around electricity — she received a monetary award, her book will be published as a bound copy for local elementary schools, and she will be honored at the State House.  Charleston County School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant Town Council deferred its vote on the Patriots Annex rezoning after residents raised concerns during the April 8 meeting about proposals that could limit public waterfront access—citing fears of reduced open space and increased density. Council staff said they will review the developer’s revised terms and plan a new vote by the July meeting—after the measure passed 6 to 2.  Moultrie News
  • The South Carolina Attorney General's office asked a court for a 120-day extension to file its response to Alex Murdaugh's appeal brief; the current deadline is Thursday. If approved, the new deadline will be August 8 — state leaders say more time is needed to review a 6,000-page transcript and manage a heavy workload.  WCIV
