  • Dock Blocks of North America announced its complete docking systems are now 100 percent made in the USA — every component is produced at its South Carolina facility to boost quality control and support local job growth.  Moultrie News

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Wednesday the Coastal Community Foundation named local portrait artist Brittney Washington the 2025 Griffith-Reyburn Lowcountry Artist of the Year, awarding her a $6,000 grant to cover living expenses as she works on a new piece to be unveiled this fall. Washington plans to launch the award piece as a series of oil pastel portraits that honor the Gullah Geechee people's connection to local waterways—highlighting cultural preservation and environmental justice.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Five TTC faculty and staff received prestigious Phi Theta Kappa awards at the recent Catalyst convention in Missouri—honoring leadership and dedication that included Dean Darren Felty and four chapter advisors. Former TTC President Mary Thornley was honored with the Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievement Award.  Moultrie News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources said wildlife biologist Janet Thibault found the first American oystercatcher nest of the 2025 season on March 27th at Crab Bank Seabird Sanctuary in Charleston Harbor with one egg in the sand. The department roped off nearby areas to protect the nest+ urging local beachgoers to follow the rules.  WCIV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews began constructing four to five foot bike lanes on the Shem Creek Bridge early this week to connect facilities from Shrimp Boat Lane and Pelzer up to the Whilden intersection. The federally funded project from the Transportation Alternative Program costs $1,199,865 & will finish in July.  WCIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Novant Health broke ground on a new 40,000-square-foot women's health center in Mount Pleasant that will offer OB/GYN, mammography and breast diagnostics plus various surgical services and is set to open in summer 2026. Construction is expected to take about 18 months and will expand care for women of all ages.  WCIV
