EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Charleston County School District announced that three 21st Century Community Learning Center programs at E.B. Ellington, Pepperhill, and Sanders-Clyde Elementary Schools received excellent ratings from the South Carolina Department of Education. The programs offer free tutoring, homework help, and enrichment activities that help students meet state standards and build social skills. Charleston County School District
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mount Pleasant Town Council delayed a vote on Bennett Hospitality’s request to change the zoning of a 30-acre site at Patriots Point, leaving residents worried about impacts on water access, trees and green space. Mayor Will Haynie may call a special meeting soon so the council can review alternatives to planned development—plans that will help fund upkeep for the USS Yorktown. WCIV

- ➤ Gov. Henry McMaster recognized MUSC researchers Steven A. Kautz, Ph.D. with the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Scientific Research and Jennifer Dahne, Ph.D. with the Governor’s Young Scientist Award for Excellence in Scientific Research. Kautz leads stroke rehabilitation research and Dahne studies tobacco use and depression—both advance health outcomes in our community. Moultrie News
