COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Cooper River Bridge Run supports military families by funding about 20% of Palmetto Military Support Group’s services. The funds help provide supplies for deployed airlift squadrons, aid returning service members, and back local events like Charleston’s upcoming air show.  WCIV
  • Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant partnered with three Florida Rotary Clubs in La Paz, Honduras, completing 29 projects in eight days including a home, storage bins, latrines, plantings and a school painting to improve living conditions. Lewis Lee briefed a March 25 meeting and mentioned plans for future missions.  Moultrie News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • At a March 24 meeting at Lawrence Seafood Company, Isle of Palms restaurant owners agreed that seasonal swings and shorter STR booking windows are stressing their businesses. They suggested partnering with Coastal Limo for rides from Mount Pleasant to Front Beach and forming a restaurant association to share ideas.  Moultrie News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AVM Group is set to open its new 12,000 sqft headquarters on Wingo Way in Mount Pleasant with a $5M investment that will add 30 jobs (operations will begin in 2027).  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charleston County School District is moving forward with its Peninsula Promise Initiative to expand educational access by moving Simmons-Pinckney Middle School to Mitchell Elementary School in 2027-28. The change will affect Charleston Hope and aims to ease the transition for students with new options set.  WCIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Community members celebrated the March 26 groundbreaking of the Roper St. Francis Health Pavilion at 512 Johnnie Dodds Boulevard — a long-planned upgrade to local healthcare — as the new 68,000 sqft facility is set to house emergency, women’s health and oncology services, with completion expected by next year.  Moultrie News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local leaders from Charleston, North Charleston, and Mount Pleasant declared a proclamation (at the Cooper River Room in Mount Pleasant) ahead of this weekend’s Cooper River Bridge Run, where nearly 40,000 runners will compete in one of the largest 10K races.  WCIV
  • Emma Navarro withdrew from the Credit One Charleston Open tomorrow due to an ongoing illness, prompting Renata Zarazua to join the main draw on Daniel Island. Navarro said she is optimistic about her return soon.  WCIV
  • The South Carolina Stingrays lost 6-1 to the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday night during their five-game road trip. The teams will meet again Friday at 9:10 p.m. at the Idaho Central Arena.  WCIV
