CULTURE NEWS

  • American pianist Christopher Goodpasture will perform on April 7 at Sottile Theatre as the season finale of the College of Charleston International Piano Series; his program features late works of Brahms, French compositions by Debussy and Rameau, and Gershwin's Three Preludes with tickets from $10 to $38.  Moultrie News
  • PURE Theatre announced a world premiere play (The Ocean We Swim In) by local playwright Brad Erickson that will run from April 16 to May 9 at Cannon Street Arts Center, exploring Lowcountry history with tickets ranging from $47 to $53 and pay-what-you-will options on select dates.  Moultrie News
  • Mount Pleasant Library's free monthly Novel Creations craft class continues under Jodie-Beth's leadership as it meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 1 p.m., with a session for crafting Farmhouse Décor Eggs from book pages. ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Cooper River Bridge Run returns this weekend and is expected to draw up to 50,000 runners while boosting local hospitality with an estimated $33 million injection. Mount Pleasant will see road closures as hotels and restaurants adjust their operations (alerts are in place for travelers).  WCIV
  • Gasoline prices in South Carolina have climbed to $3.63 per gallon—a 24-cent increase over the past week driven by seasonal demand and global supply issues, with prices varying across the state and analysts warning of further rises. Local drivers may see these trends continuing in the near future.  WCIV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cooper River CAS students earned top honors at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held March 9–12 at the state fairgrounds in Columbia. The team won medals in Engineering Technology and speaking and qualified for national championships (June 1–5 at the Georgia World Congress Center) under advisor William T.   • Wando High FCCLA finished last week at the Leadership Conference by retiring two officers and winning gold medals to qualify for nationals in Washington, D.C. Chef Molly Gordon was honored as a top 15 adviser and will learn in April if she makes the top five with cash prizes.  Charleston County School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airmen from the 16th Airlift Squadron returned to Joint Base Charleston after supporting global mobility missions during a deployment, and were greeted warmly by families, friends & base leadership. Many will soon resume training to prepare for their next mission.  WCIV
