- ➤ Inflation rose 25% over the past five years, pushing up housing costs across the Lowcountry with Mount Pleasant's average rent now at $3,367. Many locals say wages lag behind rising prices, forcing some to share homes to stay in the community. WCIV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four Buist Academy seventh graders were selected for the Art Like Bisa exhibition at the National Art Education Association Convention from March 5-7 in Chicago. Teacher Wendie Kilgore (who set the portrait challenge) said the students were inspired by renowned fiber artist Bisa Butler’s quilted textile style. Charleston County School District
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ At the recent St. Patrick’s Day GREEN Commission meeting, officials reviewed a one-year plan to boost local clean-up projects in Mount Pleasant and cut projects that were not working, like the storm drain box art program, while planning a South Carolina Arbor Day tree planting in December with volunteers. - ➤ Robin Via underwent a lifesaving colonoscopy in January 2024 at MUSC Hollings that found early-stage rectal cancer, and she has remained cancer-free for over a year. She now urges residents to get screened early as she recovers from treatment and celebrates improved health. Moultrie News

- ➤ The Charleston RiverDogs are hosting an America 250-themed season at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park starting April 2. The season will include a pregame parade — plus giveaways, food discounts, and special events honoring local history through September. WCIV
