- ➤ Local hemp sellers are hiring attorneys to sue the DEA after agents seized hemp-derived flower products and cash from several stores last week—claiming the enforcement action hurt their ability to pay bills and continue operations. WCIV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ CCSD announced that following Vanessa Brown’s retirement on June 30, Jermaine Joyner will be the new principal at Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies effective July 1. Vanessa Denney will lead St. John’s High and Kamika Smith is named Interim Executive Director of Human Resources Business Services beginning July 1. Charleston County School District
- ➤ A pending state bill would require every public school to install mobile panic alert systems that connect to first responders. The bill, which passed the House unanimously, is now under review by the Senate Education Committee. WCIV

- ➤ South Carolina paused new applications for the Working Families childcare scholarship program (Strong Start) on Dec. 1, 2025, leaving Lowcountry families worried about future support. Current approvals last 52 weeks, but many will soon face a tough choice between childcare costs and working. WCIV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ South Carolina officials urged retailers, food banks and supply outlets to check for ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula (recalled for possible Clostridium botulinum contamination tied to 28 confirmed and 20 probable infant botulism cases) today as investigations continue. The advisory applies to local stores. WCIV
