COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Town officials broke ground on Gary Santos Park on March 17 in honor of a Mount Pleasant native—recognized as the Godfather of Recreation. The project will take 16 months and add gymnasium, sports fields, tennis and pickleball courts, playground, plus trails for youth and families on Rifle Range Road.  Moultrie News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • United Bank celebrated (187 years) by hosting St. Patrick’s Day events at local branches on March 17, serving shamrocks and refreshments. The bank, noted for strong earnings and local support, thanked customers and employees for their trust.  Moultrie News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Stage Door Arts Academy, founded by teacher Jen Skovron and former dancer Amy Toresco, offers after-school dance, theater, and vocal classes to build confidence. The academy, located at (900 Muhly Grass Road in Upper Mount Pleasant), will host a live show this May at The Venue MTP.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Charleston County School District received Trustee Kevin Hollinshead’s resignation on Mar 17 after a federal indictment was filed, and officials said the district’s strict procurement checks (ensuring fairness) remain in place as they review related contracts.   • Isle of Palms Exchange Club will host a one-hour training on Preventing Child Sex Trafficking on April 2 at 5:30 p.m. at 201 Palm Blvd during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, where attendees will learn to recognize and respond to signs of abuse with food & beverages served.  Moultrie News
  • The CCSD Education Foundation launched yesterday after its first board meeting approved a $25,000 Bright Ideas Microgrant cycle for educators across all grade levels.   • Charleston County School District has launched an online salary estimator to help future teachers learn about pay based on their experience + credentials, which was previewed at a recent hiring event; the district will add more positions to the tool later.  Charleston County School District

  • The Cooper River Bridge Run has partnered with Shokz as its official headphone sponsor for the race soon; pre-registered runners pick up packets on March 26 from 12 to 8 p.m. or March 27 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. & registration is open.  Moultrie News
