COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A green tsunami covered Sullivan's Island during its annual St. Patrick's Day block party on March 15 — residents, first responders and dogs celebrated the festive spirit with food and drink.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The South Carolina State Department of Education commended CCSD’s Nutrition Services after a four-day review in February verified the child nutrition program met federal rules. The state auditors visited 10 schools and praised the staff for clean kitchens and good service at meal times.  Charleston County School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant officials announced the Highway 41 widening will add two lanes from U.S. Highway 17 to Clements Ferry Road and a center turn lane to improve travel safety—planning began in 2017 and the project’s cost has grown to $245 million due to inflation and COVID. Officials say construction is set to begin in 2026 and finish by 2030—local teams continue public meetings as they update signals and add turn lanes to ease traffic.  The Post and Courier
  • Many South Carolina residents are driving north to place online bets because North Carolina allows gambling and uses a tool (geolocation) to block bets from outsiders. A new bill in the General Assembly would let people bet online at home, but Gov Henry McMaster opposes the change and experts say more may cross the border soon.  The Post and Courier

  • The Stingrays picked up their seventh straight win — a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Gladiators at North Charleston Coliseum — on Saturday night, with goals from Romain Rodzinski, Micah Miller, and Dean Loukus and 20 saves by Mitchell Gibson.  WCIV
  • On Saturday, Battery earned their first three points of the season with a 2—0 win over Rhode Island FC at Patriots Point. Cal Jennings scored his first two goals for his new club—helping Battery secure a clean sheet with goalkeeper Luis Zamudio playing strongly.  WCIV
