  • Longtime Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant member and past president Andrea Ulmer accepted her ninth Paul Harris Fellow pin today for generous donations to local charities (with Past District Gov Lou Mello presenting the award and Rotary President Ken Tallmadge in attendance).  Moultrie News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Mount Pleasant Fire responded on Feb. 26 at about 2:45 p.m. when the USS Laffey gangway collapsed into the water and stranded about 30 personnel, with crews using a ladder truck and rescue harness to safely remove them.  Moultrie News

  • Johnny Elsasser, a retired Army Ranger, shared his combat experience and lessons in real-world leadership at the Isle of Palms Chamber of Commerce meeting on Feb. 24 — stressing that consistent training helps local leaders make timely decisions under pressure.  Moultrie News

  • Garden & Gun’s BBQ, Bluegrass & Bourbon event returns Saturday, Mar. 14 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Freshfields Village on Kiawah Island — the free open-air gathering will feature regional BBQ, live bluegrass music and bourbon tastings by local vendors.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trustees on Wednesday honored Thomas C. Cario Middle School Principal Bryan Coleman for a principal award and Wando High School Principal Chas Coker for media work. Military Magnet Academy’s TalonSkies robotics team finished 22nd at the U.S. Governors Cup — Coleman is celebrated today while Coker will speak on March 7.  Charleston County School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dominion Energy representatives met with federal lawmakers in Washington this week to urge continued funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program — the aid helped over 71,000 customers last year and supports households facing rising energy costs.  WCIV

  • Ekaterina Alexandrova, the World No. 11 and two-time Charleston semifinalist, will compete in the 2026 Credit One Charleston Open from March 28 to April 5 at Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island + joining a top field of players on green clay.  Moultrie News
