➤ At the Jan. 28 Rotary Club meeting, Aaron Silverman said the Ari Foss Foundation will help grieving families with up to $1,200 for funerals and $500 for cremations after a newborn loss, and will partner with hospitals in Beaufort and Jasper counties + expand its services statewide. Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

➤ Teacher-librarian Jennie Church earned the SCASL New Professional Award on Feb. 4 at Johns Island Elementary — recognizing her innovative library program and strong teacher partnerships that enrich student learning. Charleston County School District
➤ CCSD Board of Trustees congratulated Ranen Sibug as the district Spelling Bee champion on Feb. 12 after she correctly spelled bruschetta, and nine other students will join her in the regional contest on March 10 at Charleston Southern University. The district also recognized School Resource Officers on Feb. 15. Charleston County School District

➤ At the Feb. 10 Town Council meeting, residents debated the town's plans to install artificial turf fields for youth sports. James McKee warned of health risks from heat and chemical runoff (calling for natural grass), while Perry Rourk argued the synthetic option offers lower maintenance and handles more activity.
