- ➤ The College of Charleston Opera and the Charleston Symphony will present Hänsel und Gretel, the German opera based on a Grimm fairy tale, at the Sottile Theatre (44 George St.) on Feb. 20 and Feb. 22. Tickets range from $19 to $58 with discounts for students and employees. Moultrie News
- ➤ Indigenous Canadian singer William Prince is set to perform on Feb. 17 at Pour House in Charleston + he will support Vincent Neil Emerson as his album earns a JUNO Award nomination. Prince said he is eager to share his music with local fans. Moultrie News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new state program, Certified SC Cafeteria, now reimburses CCSD for purchasing South Carolina-grown produce to serve 538,066 students in 874 school cafeterias; the program kicked off on Feb. 6 at J.L. Mann High School & is funded with $1 million from the General Assembly. Charleston County School District
- ➤ Charleston School of Law will host a Golf Classic at Patriots Point Links on Mar. 23 to raise funds for tuition assistance and scholarships for its 700 students. The event includes breakfast, a shotgun start scramble and lunch followed by skill awards — all proceeds support student opportunities. Moultrie News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ DPH urged residents to adopt heart-healthy habits this year as part of American Heart Month, noting heart disease claimed 12,274 lives in South Carolina last year. The campaign celebrated National Wear Red Day on Feb. 6 and stressed the importance of regular diet, exercise and screenings to lower risk. WCIV
- ➤ Children’s National Hospital leaders from Washington D.C. are in Charleston this week to tour MUSC’s school-based health model — which serves over 150,000 students in 277 schools across 19 districts — as part of a Boeing-funded initiative to expand community-based programs for children. WCIV

- ➤ Pinewood Prep faces Porter-Gaud in this week’s high school basketball game on ABC News 4; viewers can watch on the website, YouTube, or Facebook. WCIV
- ➤ Credit One Charleston Open – the largest women’s-only tennis tournament – will return March 28 at Credit One Stadium with players including defending champion Jessica Pegula and Charleston native Emma Navarro.
