- ➤ The Rotary Club meets Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall, 302 Hibben St, where guests attend at no charge and may buy lunch; February speakers include Kate Dentzman (Feb. 11), Everett Weston (Feb. 18) and Ellie Schaub (Feb. 25) (all welcome). - ➤ The Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce announced its diverse 2026 Board of Directors, including President Benjamin Nesvold, to help local businesses east of the Cooper. The new board will lead plans for community initiatives that support growth. Moultrie News

- ➤ Moja Festival creative director Charlton Singleton unveiled plans for new events as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of Black History Month, with programming scheduled throughout February. He said the lineup reflects feedback gathered since he began in 2023. WCIV

- ➤ Wando High School Principal Chas Coker was named the Southern Interscholastic Press Association’s 2026 Dr. Kay Phillips Administrator of the Year on Feb. 3 for his support of the school’s student media programs. He will receive the award and address attendees at SIPA’s convention in Columbia on March 7. Charleston County School District
- ➤ Wando High School’s AFJROTC and Lucy Beckham High School’s Coast Guard JROTC will host the Wando Warrior Challenge on Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wando campus where more than 400 cadets from 16 schools will compete in drill, ceremony, and physical challenges. Moultrie News
- ➤ Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and Charleston County School District launch a monthly recognition program to celebrate elementary student leaders and School Resource Officers. The program will honor one student from grades 2 to 5 and will begin with E.B. Ellington Elementary in February. Moultrie News
- ➤ CCSD students shined at the annual Talent Hunt Event hosted by the Mu Alpha Chapter on Feb. 3, 2026, at Burke High School, where performers showcased their skills on trumpet, alto saxophone and clarinet, and first-place winner Ephesian Brown will represent CCSD at the 6th District meeting in Spartanburg this April. - ➤ Financial advisor Ben Frazier from United Brokerage Services explains that the start of the year is a good time for reviewing spending, saving, and investing plans. - ➤ On Feb. 2, Mount Pleasant honored Corp. George Tetanich for his rise from a civilian role to police officer, field training officer, and corporal—Chief Mark Arnold praised his dedication and lifesaving actions. His service earned him multiple commendations and awards. Moultrie News

- ➤ Palmetto Community Care will offer free HIV testing and education on Saturday, Feb. 7 as part of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (hosted by Charleston Black Pride). Health officials say early testing helps connect people to treatment and reduce stigma. WCIV
