- ➤ Mount Pleasant Waterworks is calling on local volunteers to remove invasive Chinese privet along Marsh View Trail behind the facility at 1619 Rifle Range Road on Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers should wear long pants + closed-toe shoes and bring gloves and water. Moultrie News

- ➤ On Jan. 30, the Charleston Post Office unveiled a commemorative USPS stamp honoring Phillis Wheatley, the first African American poet to publish a book of poetry. Community groups from Charleston, Columbia and Greenville gathered — with the state declaring Jan. 29 as Phillis Wheatley Remembrance Day. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Palmetto Park Jam returns on Sunday, March 8 at Palmetto Islands County Park with tribute band The Reckoning headlining and local band Hollifield performing at 12 p.m. (gates open at 11 a.m.). - ➤ Eighth grader Ranen Sibug won the CCSD Spelling Bee (held at Burke High School Auditorium on Jan. 29) by correctly spelling 'bruschetta' to finish 18 rounds, beating competitors from Charleston County School of the Arts and Buist Academy as 51 students from 45 schools competed. - ➤ Christopher Holbrook has been named permanent principal at A.C. Corcoran Elementary effective immediately — after serving as interim since July 2025, he brings over 20 years of public education experience. Superintendent Anita Huggins praised his leadership and commitment to improving student success. Charleston County School District
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Sickle cell patients and families voiced concerns over pain treatment at a North Charleston press conference on Friday, saying the new medication weaning schedule failed to account for individual needs. MUSC is reviewing the issue and will form its first Patient and Family Advisory Council for the disease this spring. WCIV
