  • Margie A. Morse, TTC Area Commissioner, received the MLK Humanitarian Award on Jan. 20 at the College of Charleston’s Albert Simmons Center for the Arts Recital Hall. She has served TTC since 2017 + is known for her strong community contributions.  Moultrie News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The American Red Cross warns local residents to follow fire safety tips as cold weather nears, noting five house fires occurred in the Lowcountry from Jan. 19 to Jan. 21 (including advice to keep space heaters away from flammable items).  WCIV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jimmy Rosso will debut this summer at the entrance of Brickyard Plantation in Upper Mount Pleasant. The new restaurant will offer lunch & dinner service while blending Southern ingredients with Brooklyn-style pizza craft.  Moultrie News
  • T.D. McMurry at 320 W. Coleman Blvd in Mount Pleasant runs a menswear boutique that asks clients about their weekend plans and style needs. He plans to shift trends away from overbuying + build intentional wardrobes as he serves everyone from students to retirees.  Moultrie News
  • Motley Rice has added Cameran Gilliam and Avery Upchurch in its Mount Pleasant headquarters to expand its securities litigation and mass tort teams. Gilliam relocated from Chicago to join the securities team, while Upchurch brings experience from government and environmental legal roles.  Moultrie News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for the annual Joe Brinson Scholarship, which will award two $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors east of the Cooper + submissions are due by Feb. 20, with winners announced in late March and honored at the April 16 luncheon.  Moultrie News

  • Gov. McMaster declared a state of emergency ahead of a winter storm expected to bring snow, sleet and freezing temperatures this weekend. State agencies may mobilize resources — with the National Guard on standby — to ensure emergency supplies reach needed areas.  WCIV
