- ➤ Charleston Animal Society received a Lifesaving Express van donated by Shelly Leeke Law Firm to boost animal rescue in the Lowcountry. The new van moved 21 dogs last week and will move 30 cats later this week to ease overcrowding and support adoption events — boosting rescue efforts. WCIV
- ➤ The Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center invites the community to join its 26th Annual Hope Grows Here Dinner Auction and online auction starting Feb. 1 — Feb. 5 at The Cedar Room in Mount Pleasant where bidders can support services for children and families. Moultrie News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Lynette White was honored on Jan. 13 with the Cresco Award for her work sharing Gullah Geechee history during a ceremony hosted by Mount Pleasant. The Plantation Singers will perform on Feb. 14 as part of a Black History Month event. Moultrie News

- ➤ P.A.T.C.H. Career Institute (located at 1818 Norwood) has served Chicora-Cherokee since 2007 by offering small classes like Clinical Medical Assistant and Medical Coding while also renting space to local business owners. WCIV
- ➤ CCSD’s ‘Reading Around the Bases’ literacy initiative, partnering with the Charleston RiverDogs, celebrates its tenth year; second graders from 23 schools will start the 10-week baseball-themed program on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at Murray-LaSaine Montessori School (kickoff at 8:30 a.m.).
