  • VFW Auxiliary Post 3137 — operating from the Isle of Palms — presented Ruby's Bagels in Mount Pleasant with the Americanism Award for its patriotism, veteran support and daily flag display. The family-owned business also donates bagels weekly to a local men's group serving the homeless.  Moultrie News
  • Sarah Fretz, branch manager at Mount Pleasant Library (1133 Mathis Ferry Road), invites residents to join The Intentional Life Lab, a monthly discussion on intentional living. The program meets at 1 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month, with February’s session featuring a capsule wardrobe for yourself and kids.  Moultrie News
  • Charleston AMA announced Campaign in a Day, a 12-hour challenge that pairs students+experts to develop strategies for local non-profits. Its kickoff is Feb.6 at a TBD location and the main event will be held Feb.7 at Beatty School of Business.  Moultrie News
  • Charleston Animal Society recently announced the launch of the Lifesaving Express — a fully outfitted Ram ProMaster van that carries up to 20 dogs or 40 cats for rescue transport from its Berkeley Campus and scheduled adoption events later this week, easing overcrowding and supporting emergency rescues.  Moultrie News

  • Lowcountry Local First will host the 13th annual Good Business Summit on Feb. 18 at Charleston Music Hall and American Theater from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Keynote speaker Les Szabo will lead sessions that offer ideas and connections for growing local businesses.  Moultrie News

  • On Jan. 14, Charleston County School District celebrated six high schools added to the AP School Honor Roll — an honor for expanding AP access and boosting college credit earnings, marking an increase from four schools recognized in 2024.  Charleston County School District

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Air Force is testing readiness today at Joint Base Charleston as eight C-17 Globemaster III aircraft launch on a 40-hour nonstop mission— an exercise simulating real overseas crisis conditions. Some crews will continue to Alaska later this month to join the 11th Airborne Division.  WCIV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A local patient at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital is set to be honored as the facility’s first Children's Miracle Network Hospitals champion today, giving the child a chance to share their story and highlight local donor support.  WCIV
  • Aloka the Peace Dog is recovering after surgery at Charleston Veterinary Referral Center to repair his right hind leg. The veterinarian said he is already bearing weight and is expected to walk comfortably in about eight weeks (donations can be made to the Veterinary Care Foundation).  WCIV
