🎓 Education
Dr. Shavonna Coakley received the 2026 Beta Mu Sigma Education Award for her work in the Charleston County School District.
Her leadership has improved educational support and community engagement, helping local students through better alternative programs.
🏛️ Government
Crews began construction Tuesday night on a new pedestrian crossing along Maybank Highway that will add flashing beacons, a center island refuge, and 500 feet of sidewalk — drivers will face intermittent nighttime lane closures, and the project is expected to finish in about two months.
Residents have raised concerns about unsafe e-bike riding after town ordinances clarified speed rules; few officers have enforced the limits on sidewalks.
Police now have clearer guidelines and urge locals to use the non-emergency line to report dangerous behavior.
