- ➤ Tracey Booth Owens, daughter of the late artist Jim Booth, will discuss her new book 'Beacon of the Lowcountry' at Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Sullivan's Island from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 15, and she will share her plans to support local non-profits while the book is available for purchase online and at Towne Centre Barnes & Noble. - ➤ Dominion Energy South Carolina filed a request on Jan. 5 to add about $20 to monthly residential bills, with public hearings scheduled for March and new rates set for July if approved. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State officials are urging residents to set realistic recovery goals for the new year while Moncks Corner hosts a town hall today at 6:30 p.m. at the Berkley County Administration Building to discuss kratom risks with local experts. WCIV
- ➤ State health officials reported that between Dec. 21 and Dec. 27, South Carolina recorded nine flu deaths and 735 hospitalizations amid low vaccination rates and an aggressive virus strain. Local pharmacies report increased flu shot visits as experts urge residents to get vaccinated to protect themselves. WCIV
- ➤ The American Red Cross is facing a blood shortage this winter and urges Lowcountry residents to donate blood or platelets from Jan. 1 to 25. Donors enter a Super Bowl Giveaway (airfare, hotel, pregame activities, and a $1000 gift card) for a chance to attend the game in Santa Clara. WCIV
